Are these the Best Retro liveries yet?

For the fourth time this season, Porsche Penske Motorsport will run heritage liveries on their two factory Porsche 963 entries, and this time they are honoring the iconic Sunoco and DHL color schemes for the upcoming Motul Sportscar Endurance Grand Prix at Road America.

The tributes began at the 12 Hours of Sebring, where Porsche celebrated its 30-year partnership with Mobil 1 by recreating the 1996 Porsche 911 GT1 livery, helping Penske secure a second consecutive Sebring 1–2 finish. Apple Music-inspired liveries followed at Long Beach, before Porsche unveiled a fan-favorite tribute at Laguna Seca honoring the rainbow Apple Computer Porsche 935 K3 that competed at Le Mans in 1980.

For Road America, the No. 6 Porsche 963 of Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor will wear the legendary blue-and-yellow Sunoco colors, paying tribute to the iconic Porsche 917/30 that competed in Can-Am.

The famous livery was carried by Mark Donohue in 1973. At Road America, the 1972 Indianapolis 500 winner became the first driver to lap the circuit in under two minutes, securing pole position with a remarkable 1:57.51 before dominating the race. Donohue later captured the 1973 Can-Am championship, cementing both the Porsche 917/30 and its Sunoco livery as motorsport icons.

Meanwhile, the Daytona and Sebring-winning No. 7 Porsche 963 will run another legendary design, the iconic yellow DHL livery, which also has a rich history at Road America.

Felipe Nasr and Julien Andlauer will race the No. 7 in a modern tribute to the Porsche Penske RS Spyder, which
in 2007, achieved one of the greatest victories in prototype racing history. Driven by Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas, the LMP2 machine claimed an outright victory at Road America, defeating the more powerful Audi R10 TDI LMP1 cars. Bernhard and Dumas would later go on to win the 2007 ALMS LMP2 championship.

Spider-Man BMW GTP Car!

Porsche Penske aren’t the only team running a special design this weekend!

BMW M Team WRT has unveiled a special Spider-Man-themed livery on its No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 for the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round at Road America.

The one-off design celebrates the upcoming release of Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Tom Holland returning as Peter Parker in the fourth MCU Spider-Man film. The movie arrives in theaters on Friday, August 31, during the same period IMSA heads to Road America.

The special livery will appear exclusively on the defending Road America-winning No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8, driven by Dries Vanthoor and Philipp Eng. Meanwhile, the sister No. 25 BMW will continue to run its standard full-season 2026 livery.

Special Motul livery for Pfaff Motorsports

Finally, the last special livery is from Pfaff Motorsports, who will run its fourth different livery of the season this weekend.

The Canadian team will promote its partnership with Motul, which is serving as the event’s title sponsor for the second year in a row. The red and white Motul colors will feature across the weekend on the No. 9 Lamborghini Temerario GT3, which will make its first appearance at Road America driven by full season racers Andrea Caldarelli and Sandy Mitchell.

Pfaff Motorsports will be aiming for another strong result after earning a historic second-place finish with the Temerario GT3 at Detroit two races ago. Road America has also been a successful venue for the team, with Pfaff previously taking victories there in 2019 and 2021 while competing in IMSA with the Porsche 911.
